If they had a Miss World pageant for fruit, surely the dragon fruit (thang long) would be crowned the hands down winner. Without wanting to offend bananas or pineapples, the dragon fruit's stunning pink and green exterior sways this 'fruitist' judge's vote.
Voluptuously succulent, these cactus fruits are grown in Binh Thuan, Tien Giang and Long An provinces in South-Central Vietnam, though they originated in Central America. In mid-season right now, the dragon fruit's sunburnt skin peels sensuously back from a watery white flesh with a billion black seeds which resemble sesame. It's a summer suck rivalling watermelon as a thirst-quencher.
This fruit teases with its beauty but is sometimes harshly criticised for blandly not putting out. Persist, for eventually this fruit pearler will plant a sweet kiss on your lips. It's just playing hard to get!
