Fire Balls

lychees

By mid-summer, every Hanoian has just about eaten their bodyweight in lychees. A darker shade of red than their predecessors in the season, these balls are ripe, luscious and downright sexy for the eating. Sold in meticuluosly arranged bunches off the back of bicycles, by sheer weight of numbers they win the summer fruit race.

Lychees are a hot yang fruit, meaning over-indulgence tips the body's balance. Uglification can result in the form of pimples, dried lips and mouth ulcers!

I ate a ton last week.

Anyone want a kiss?

A short and sweet review about lychees.

But I do not agree with some points, though I am not a great lychee eater.

Research has proven that lychee is rich in Vitamin C, potassium and other nutrients. The best part is are very low in calories.

So if you had a ton of lychees, then you have reduced the wrinkles on your skin. It is good to be happy with a younger looking skin...don't worry about dried lips.

Esther - Not everybody believes in the yin yang food theory. At least not everybody (including me) can stop themselves from eating a kilo of lychees at a time. Maybe I should eat more to get rid of the crows' feet around my eyes;)

Hey Sticky,
I love your blog and writing. I saw you recently on the PBS special and now reading through your blog am fascinated to find out more about this yin/yang hullabaloo about food!!!! I wonder if it's perhaps a little ayurveda-ish?

Thanks!
